About the RUGBY GAME
Rugby is a legendary game that mixes
strength, speed, agility and a bit of courage. The purpose
of the game is to carry the ball over a goal line and touch
it down, or kick it over a goal post, ultimately scoring
more points than one's opposition.
The laws of rugby are few and simple.
Passes cannot be forward, there is no blocking, anyone can
run with the ball, anyone can kick the ball, and the action
does not stop until someone scores, the ball goes out of
bounds, or a rule is broken.
Rugby teams don't huddle to prepare
strategy since no platoons for offense, defense, and special
teams exist. A good rugby team will respond instantly to
a number of defensive and offensive situations, each member
of the team moving independently within his role, but collectively
for total effect.
It is a game that will forever welcome
athletes of any size and shape. While successful rugby does
require all around fitness and rewards the combination of
strength and speed, first and foremost rugby requires that
special person who's ready and willing to give it a go.
Rugby is where the term "scrummage"
comes from. but you also get to ruck, line-out, maul, drop-kick,
punt, pass, and oh yes, did we mention, RUN WITH THE BALL!!
There's much more to the game, of
course, but we're running out of space, so you'll just have
to grab a friend and come on out and join us. We have coaches
and players alike ready to teach you all about the greatest
game on earth!
